mayo gorge

Mayo Gorge is a hidden gem of the outback, a place to unwind by a natural spring, watch the native fauna and soak in the serenity

Mount Aleck Elder Range

Mayo Gorge is a captivating gem nestled within our expansive 24,000-acre property. To begin your adventure to Mayo Gorge, travel past the camp kitchen, keeping to your right until you reach the gate where the Arkaba and Wonoka Creeks join to form Hookina Creek.

You can leave your car at the gate and enjoy a leisurely 30-minute walk, or drive approximately 2 km before walking the remaining 200 meters over rocks, leading you to the boundary fence.

The area is renowned for its permanent spring and waterhole, home to an abundance of wildlife, birdlife, and aquatic macro-invertebrates. You might even catch a yabby or two while admiring the ever-changing colours of the cliffs and various rock formations.

For those seeking a deeper connection with nature, Mayo Gorge offers a tranquil escape.

As you hike through the gorge, you’ll be surrounded by the striking colours and textures of the rocks carved by millennia of natural forces. The secluded environment provides a peaceful retreat, where you can soak in the serenity of the Australian bush.

During long weekends and school holidays, we kindly request you refrain from driving into Mayo Gorge to preserve its natural beauty.

“Immerse yourself in the cool waters of shimmering gorges and be inspired by the unique architecture of every mountain range.”
